AVEDRO

The Avedro KXL™ System is used to perform accelerated corneal cross‐linking. In the twelve years since the standard, one-hour corneal collagen cross-linking was first performed , it has been shown to be safe and effective in halting the progression of keratoconus and post-Lasik ectasia.

Cross-linking is a medical procedure that combines the use of ultra-violet light and riboflavin eye drops. Riboflavin (vitamin B2) is dripped onto the cornea and then exposed to ultra violet light.

The light causes the riboflavin to fluoresce, which leads to the formation of bonds between collagen molecules or collagen cross-linking. The Avedro KXL Accelerated Cross-linking procedure is performed in minutes, while traditional procedures typically take one hour.

These improvements make the Avedro unique and give us the option of treating LASIK patients at the same time without affecting the results of the refractive correction as well combining with other procedures such as LASEK and intracorneal rings
